A public exercise park which serves as a memorial for a Norfolk woman who lost her life when she was wept out into a river is closed for refurbishment.
The Mia Lucy Rose Memorial Trim Trail on Gorleston's Lower Esplanade is closed until August. Council workers were at the site yesterday, carrying out landscaping.
With the existing exercise equipment removed, a sign has been put up by the park entrance highlighting some of the additions coming to the site.
Gym rings, hyperextension sit-up benches, high and low hurdles, vault bars, parallel bars and plyometric boxes will all be making their way to the park later this summer.
The trim trail, which opened in 2005 at a cost of £35,000, is named in memory of Gorleston woman Mia Lucy Rose who died in 2004 while backpacking in southeast Asia. The 24-year-old was at the centre of an international rescue mission when she was swept away by a current on the Mekong River in Laos.
Following her death, her family established the Mia Lucy Rose Trust which supported a number of local causes, including the construction of the trim trail.
