The chief executive officer of a Norfolk district council has been named the top local authority boss in the land.

Maxine O'Mahony, chief executive of Breckland Council, has been named Chief Executive of the Year at the Municipal Journal (MJ) Awards.

The ceremony took place in London on June 21, honouring notable achievements in government leadership.

Her award recognises her steadfast commitment and visionary leadership at the council.

Since assuming her duties, it is said she's initiated transformative strategies to improve the living standards for all in Breckland.

It is also said her dedication to fostering innovation, encouraging community participation, delivering through partnerships and establishing new standards in public service is commendable.

Accepting the award, Ms O'Mahony said: “I am incredibly honoured and humbled to receive this recognition from the Municipal Journal.

"This award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the entire team at Breckland Council.

"Together, we have strived to make a positive impact on our community, and this accolade is a testament to our collective efforts, so this award is for all at team Breckland and my family who always provide unwavering support.”

The MJ Awards, considered the crowning accomplishment within the UK local government sector, applaud the dedication and hard work of local authorities and their staff.

The Chief Executive of the Year award acknowledges those who exhibit extraordinary leadership, creativity, and significant benefits to their communities.

Singing her praises, councillor Sam Chapman-Allen, leader of Breckland Council, highlighted her transformative leadership.

"We are immensely proud of her achievements and this well-deserved recognition.”
