A Norfolk election candidate has admitted he is shooting for second place at the polls but warns that his opposition is "taking votes for granted".

Jamie Osborn, the Green Party candidate in Norwich South, has said he is "serious" about his bid to become an MP despite the constituency being a Labour stronghold.

Mr Osborn has been targeted in his opposition's campaign material, with voters being urged not to "waste their vote" on the Greens by Labour candidate Clive Lewis - who has held the seat since 2015.

However, he describes the leaflet as "promotion" and has not been deterred by the message.

He added: "Labour are certain that they're going to win, but people want them to be held to account - that's why they're voting Green.

"They're taking people's votes for granted."

Mr Osborn declined to say he would win the election but believes he is in a "strong second" place.

Mr Osborn is a Green city and county councillor who moved to Norwich from Hastings six years ago to work for a mental health charity.

The father-of-one has focussed his campaign on advocating for affordable housing across the city and bringing Anglia Square into public ownership.

He said: "The most important thing is that any development should provide housing that people can actually afford.

"That’s why I've campaigned to get public ownership of Anglia Square so that the council can direct the development there without being in hock to tax-avoiding developers who want to build flats that most people can’t afford."

The candidates in Norwich South include Sean Bennett for the Lib Dems, Graham Burton for Reform UK, Labour's Clive Lewis and Conservative candidate David Thomas.

Party of Women candidate Linda Law and Independent candidate Elizabeth Davey are also bidding for election.
