Parts of Norfolk could see temperatures hit 28C this week as a heatwave sweeps across the country. 

Many areas may reach the heatwave threshold of 25C over three consecutive days as the warm weather beds in.

After reaching highs of 25C today, temperatures will gently cool overnight before the hot weather continues into the week.

The temperatures prompted a yellow heat health alert to be issued by the UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office.

Tuesday

By Tuesday, the county is continuing its warm spell, with towns such as Diss, Thetford and Attleborough all reaching a scorching 27C by 4pm.

Downham Market takes the crown as Norfolk's hottest town reaching 28C - hotter than Rome at the same time.

Norwich and King's Lynn will still reach the heatwave threshold with highs of around 25C.

Coastal areas will remain cooler with Great Yarmouth reaching 21C and the north Norfolk coast hitting 24C.

Wednesday

The summer scorcher continues into Wednesday although a cloudier forecast and slight breeze may bring some escape from the direct heat.

The high temperatures will remain in the west with Thetford reaching 27C, Downham Market and Swaffham reaching 26C and King's Lynn reaching 25C.

Heading east, the weather looks to repeat Tuesday, with Norwich, Great Yarmouth and north Norfolk all mirroring the day before.

Thursday

Thursday brings more unsettled weather with sunny spells, cloud and rain all forecast.

In Norwich, temperatures remain warm, with highs of 26C at 2pm but with a brief shower on its way at 4pm - setting the Royal Norfolk Show up for a sunny two days.

The west can expect sunny intervals with a gentle breeze maintaining its high temperatures with Downham Market reaching 25C.

The east can also expect some drizzle with showers reaching this part of the county at the same time as Norwich.

Friday

By the end of the week, temperatures will begin to cool and return to the monthly average.

The city will see highs of 21C with sunny intervals and a moderate breeze.

Temperatures in Thetford, King's Lynn and Downham Market will reach 22C.

This weather will be mirrored across the rest of the region with temperatures hovering in the high teens and low twenties for the majority of the day.

Hay fever sufferers across the county can expect to see dry eyes and a runny nose as a 'pollen bomb' hits Norfolk.

The Met Office is forecasting five more consecutive days of "very high" pollen.
