Man arrested after spate of Wymondham arson attacks

Two cars were set alight in Park Close, Wymondham, in the space of just five days, leaving locals "shocked" and fearing more attacks in the area. 

Police arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of three counts of arson - due to a neighbouring vehicle having been damaged in the second incident - but have since released him on bail. 

Suzanne Nuri-Nixon, chairwoman of Wymondham Town Council and mayor, said she had been contacted by many "worried" locals.

She said: "It's extremely concerning when something like this happens anywhere, but especially in our small market town. 

"I have been told that police patrols will be stepped up in the area and they are taking these attacks very seriously.

"It's very welcome news that they have a suspect and I'm really glad they were able to act on this, given how stretched resources can be."

Both incidents happened in the early hours of the morning, with the first vehicle set alight on June 14 and the second on June 19. 

No one was injured in either attack. 

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Police: "A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of three counts of arson and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

"He has been released on bail until September 12."
