A coach driver who almost knocked over a cyclist has been issued with a traffic offence for careless driving in a county-wide police crackdown.

The offence was issued as officers worked to reduce the dangers faced by cyclists on Norfolk’s roads.

Close Pass is a road safety operation with a focus on driver education over enforcement and involves officers patrolling on bicycles in plain clothes.

The operation was designed to identify drivers who do not allow enough room when overtaking, tailing, or crossing the paths of cyclists.

Eight drivers were issued with Traffic Offence Reports for use of their mobile phone and excessively tinted windows.

Another eight drivers received educational engagement from officers.

Officers on bicycles were equipped with action camera devices to secure and record evidence of driving offences.

Offences were then reported to uniformed officers on motorcycles who were deployed to stop the offending vehicle and offer educational input.

If the driver declined the offer, they were issued with a Traffic Offence Report for careless driving or driving without due care and attention.
