Norwich Western Link plans among public notices in Norfolk

1. Norwich Western Link

Norfolk County Council has revealed its planning application for the Norwich Western Link Road.

A five-week consultation period is now open to the public until July 18.

The £274m route would connect the Broadland Northway from the A1067 to the A47 west of Norwich to improve travel between the two roads.

Traffic congestion, rat-running and delays to journeys have been significant issues on minor roads to the west of Norwich according to the council.

Organisations such as the Norfolk Wildlife Trust have expressed concern over the impact of the scheme, which includes a viaduct over the Wensum Valley, on wildlife habitats including the UK’s largest-known rare bat colony.

2. National Grid Electricity Upgrades

The National Grid is extending consultations on its plans to upgrade the electricity transmission system between Norwich and Tilbury until July 26. 

The project includes a new 400-kilovolt electricity transmission connection of approximately 184 kilometres from Norwich Main Substation and Tilbury Substation via Bramford Substation.

This would include approximately 159 km of new overhead line supported on around 510 steel lattice pylons between 15 to 50 metres in height.

Land would also be required temporarily for construction activities including working areas for construction equipment and machinery, site offices, welfare, storage and temporary construction access.

All documents, plans and maps of the proposed development, including environmental information, are available to view via the National Grid website.

3. New Dog Day Care

A planning application has been made to set up a new dog daycare facility in Gorleston.

The proposal includes plans to change the use of part of the Herringport Furniture building and rear curtilage at Old Priory Works in Riverside Road.

The new facility would include the construction of a raised external exercise area and the installation of a boundary fencing enclosure.

Written representations should be sent to Great Yarmouth Borough Council by July 5.

4. New planning application for major housing scheme

Persimmon Homes has submitted a follow-up application to Great Yarmouth Borough Council after planning for a major development was granted at Nova Scotia Farm, in Jack Chase Way, West Caister.

The previous planning application included up to 665 dwellings, a local centre, land for a primary school, a health centre, plus associated infrastructure and open space. 

A new application has been made for the associated drainage infrastructure and landscaping of Spine Road in relation to the development.

Members of the public can view copies of the application, plans, environmental statement and other documentation at Great Yarmouth Borough Council offices until July 12.

5. Chapelfield Road in Norwich

Drivers can expect disruption in the city centre next weekend as a busy road is closed.

Chapelfield Road will be closed from 7am on June 30 for resurfacing work costing the council £17,400.

The closure, which is set to last until midday, will be in place from the St Stephens roundabout heading northwest to the second entrance to The Crescent.

The work will involve a road rejuvenator being sprayed on to the road that will soak into the top layer to preserve the asphalt for several more years.
