From July 13 to 14, the Lord Mayor's Weekend will fill the streets with music, performances and activities, as well as one of the oldest mayoral processions in the country.

Here are five major highlights to look forward to:

1. Catch the carnival vibe of Saturday’s Lord Mayor’s Procession 

A huge street party blending all the excitement, colour and noise of the carnival with centuries-old tradition.

This year the procession will take a new route through the city centre, starting at 3pm from Norwich Cathedral and ending in Chapelfield Gardens for a full programme of family-friendly activities. 

The parade will include floats, large-scale walking puppets, marching bands and displays from dancers, acrobats and brightly-costumed groups and organisations from across Norwich.

There will be free entertainment all day in the gardens with live music and dance acts, stalls and games, as well as a bar and food arena.

Attendees can enjoy performances from The Garage and Young Norfolk Arts, comedy shows, plus carnival headdress-making and dance workshops.

There will be a lineup of live music in Chapelfield Gardens during the afternoon and early evening including a showcase of bands from the local music scene.

At The Forum, Norfolk Museums will present two performances of an outdoor family-friendly play that tells the history of Norwich.

4. Rock the night away

The entertainment will continue into the evening with performances by world champion beatboxers the Beatbox Collective, 5-piece brass band Fat Brass and female string duo The Ayoub Sisters.

At the end of the night, Chapelfield Gardens will transform into a music festival for headliners the UK Foo Fighters before ending with with a firework display.

5. Head to the river bank for Sunday’s Great Norwich Duck Race

With £2 entry and £1,000 in prizes to be won, head to Lady Julian Bridge in Riverside where the race will start at 2.30pm.

Organised by the 1st Norwich Sea Scouts, the race fundraises for scout groups and the civic charity appeal.
