A Norwich teenager found with more than 1,000 indecent images of children did it "for the thrill of it", a court has heard.

Kieran Cram, 18, had sought out the pictures after a friend had shown him some online, Norwich Crown Court was told.

Norwich Crown CourtNorwich Crown Court (Image: Peter Walsh, Newsquest) Samantha Lowther, prosecuting, said police went to Cram's home in September 2022 - when he was 16 - and seized a number of devices, including a mobile phone "from his bed".

On that phone was found a total of 1,261 indecent images of children aged between two and 13, including 228 category A or the most serious.

Also found were 579 category B images and 454 category C images as well as two videos.

Mrs Lowther said when interviewed by police Cram said he got a "thrill" from doing it.

Cram, of Gloucester Street, Norwich, appeared in court on Wednesday having admitted three counts of making indecent photographs of a child.

Danielle O'Donovan, mitigating, said Cram was a "very vulnerable young man" who was "particularly immature" and even more so two years ago when the offending occurred.

She said Cram was supported by his parents and "trying everything he can to address this offending behaviour".

The court was told Cram was "seeing a private therapist to deal with the issues" and help him come to terms with his "interest and curiosity".

Imposing an 18-month community order Recorder John Hardy said these were "vile" images.

But he said Cram was 16 when he committed these offences and recognised he had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and was seeking help.

Cram was also given 80 hours unpaid work and ordered to carry out 20 days rehabilitation activity requirement (RAR).

He was also put on the sex offenders register for five years and made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for two years.
