Breckland police have come under fire after gloating over the seizure of a car being used to deliver takeaways.

On Saturday evening, police spotted a silver Mini being used for a food delivery job in Thetford.

The officers noted the driver did not have the correct insurance to use the vehicle for work purposes and pulled them over.

Breckland police shared the story on social media with the caption "having your car seized, paying a fine and getting points on your license because you were delivering food without business insurance", followed by a gritted teeth emoticon.

The force also included a Gavin and Stacey takeaway reference, joking: "Delivering a chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan and 9 poppadoms."

But public response to the post has been varied.

One commenter wrote: "Money grabbing at its finest. Insurance is insurance surely? Another example of penalising people trying to earn a living."

Somebody else said: "Put someone out of a job. Fabulous. Maybe catch some real criminals? Then joking about it?"

But others defended the decision.

"Everyone moaning that it's a waste of resources, you would soon moan if they were involved in an RTC with yourself and you found they didn't have insurance," one person said.

"Good news!", added another.
