Norfolk fire hit homes to be demolished at Pudding Norton

Plans to redevelop four fire-damaged flats and dilapidated garages in Pudding Norton, Fakenham have been submitted to North Norfolk District Council. 

Flames swept through a home in Green Lane Estate in the early hours of September 19 2021, leaving a flat completely destroyed.

Authorities said that the fire was accidental and started by unattended candles.

A neighbour and witness to the fire described how the flat "went up like a matchstick". 

Flagship Group has now submitted plans to demolish the existing damaged flats and garages, and build nine homes in their place.

The plans include four flats in a two-storey building, two one-and-a-half storey homes, as well as three two-storey homes. 

Sustainability and energy-efficiency have also been prioritised in the application, with plans for the installation of air source heat pumps also being outlined.

"The proposed development seeks to minimize carbon and meet the highest standards of sustainability, while minimising fuel poverty for future tenants," said Heather Bryne, an associate planner for One Planning Consultants, which submitted the plans on behalf of Flagship Group. 

"The homes are proposed around a central plaza to create a strong sense of place and an attractive pedestrian environment, with parking."

A public consultation was held in early January where those who attended were said to have given positive feedback for the development plans.

Over £500 was raised for the man living in the flat at the time it was set alight.

The plans are currently available on the North Norfolk District Council planning portal, and those who wish to comment on the plans may do so using the reference: PF/24/0728.
