A city school which opened its doors just a decade ago is celebrating earning the highest available Ofsted rating.

Jane Austen College in Norwich has been rated as outstanding by watchdog Ofsted following its latest inspection.

The school in Colegate welcomed its first pupils in September 2014 an was rated as good in its first inspection.

But this year, inspectors boosted its rating, praising the "warm and positive relationships" pupils forge with their teachers.

The report reads: "Pupils really value the extensive range of pastoral support on offer, including for mental health.

"This helps pupils to be able to cope with issues such as anxiety and stay happy and safe."

Inspectors who visited the school earlier this year said its pupils benefit from an "extensive character curriculum" and "treat each other with respect and tolerance."

The report goes on to praise the way reading is "promoted extensively" at the school, which specialises in English and humanities.

Summer Turner, principal of Jane Austen College said: "I am incredibly proud of the Jane Austen College community staff, students and families.

"This report recognises the hard work and dedication it has taken to build this academic and inclusive school

"I am grateful that the Ofsted team was able to see the power of our curriculum, the strength of our teaching and the warmth of our pastoral care."

Jane Diver, the executive principal at the school added that she was "delighted".

The school is part of the Inspiration Trust, which runs several schools across the region.
