Pre-packed sandwiches, wraps and salads from major supermarkets are being recalled across the county amid an outbreak of E.coli.

People in Norfolk won't be able to enjoy their meal deal favourites as Tesco's chicken salad sandwich, tuna crunch sub and spicy bean wrap have all been recalled by supplier Samworth Brothers Manton Wood.

Tesco isn't the only supermarket to be hit with recalls as wraps and sandwiches from Aldi, Asda, Boots, Co-op and Morrisons are all being taken off the shelves.

Some 211 people are known to currently be affected by E. coli - up from 113 last week, although the exact number of Norfolk cases are not yet known.

Although bacteria linked with E.coli have not been detected in these products, they have been recalled is a precaution.

Darren Whitby, head of incidents at the Food Standards Agency, said: “This is a complex investigation, and we have worked swiftly with the relevant businesses and the local authorities concerned to narrow down the wide range of foods consumed to a small number of salad leaf products that have been used in sandwiches and wraps."

“Infections caused by [E. coli] STEC bacteria can cause severe bloody diarrhoea and, in some cases, more serious complications."
