Major players in the East’s energy sector are coming together to showcase the region’s wind energy supply chain and its potential for future growth at the world’s largest offshore wind event.
The East of England Energy Group (EEEGR), EastWind Offshore Cluster, Generate Energy and Insight Energy will all be attending Renewable UK’s Global Offshore Wind event in Manchester next week, which is set to attract more than 5,000 offshore wind professionals, 260 exhibitors and 200 expert speakers.
The North Sea off the coast of East Anglia is home to more than 1,000 wind turbines, generating five gigawatts (GW) of energy – enough to power five million UK homes.
These figures are set to triple in the next decade.
Karen Freeman, general manager of EEEGR, said: “EEEGR prides itself on a collaborative working approach with our members and key partner organisations and we are pleased to be joined by EastWind, Generate and Insight Energy at this year’s Global Offshore Wind to showcase the East of England’s offshore wind portfolio and the opportunities it presents."

Lexi Brackpool, EastWind project manager, said: “We are delighted to be taking a collaborative approach to the Eastern region’s presence at Global Offshore Wind this year.
"By working together our organisations are able to demonstrate to the wider industry the strength of the eastern regions supply chain, the exciting projects we have and why the region is so prominent for industry investment.”

Ian Pease, Generate's business development manager, added: “This international gathering is really important for our offshore wind sector.
"Not only will we celebrate a thriving clean energy supply chain, but we’ll be shining a light on some of the key projects which will make sure we fully realise the offshore wind opportunity and build a lasting legacy for the communities and business who live and work in the East of England."
The two-day Global Offshore Wind event is taking place on June 18 and 19.
