A coastal café is to undergo a major revamp as part of a wider project to breathe new life into one of the most remarkable buildings in the country.

The Beach House Café, located behind the Winter Gardens in South Beach Parade, Great Yarmouth, will be bulldozed and rebuilt to be turned into a foodie destination.

The project is linked with the £12.3m restoration of the Victorian Grade II listed glasshouse, which has been awarded National Lottery Heritage funding for the scheme.

Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council said: "This will be another offer in the town and it is fantastic to bring this forward along with the revamp of the Winter Gardens."

Officers are proposing turning the café into a "gourmet street food type operation" that would include coffee from a local roaster as well as "spontaneous picnic hampers".
