A restaurant that was recently named the best in Norfolk has shared the secrets of its success.
The White Horse in Brancaster Staithe scooped the Muddy Stilettos award after beating competition across the county.
The countryside inn, managed by Rob Williamson and executive head chef Fran Hartshorne, boasts 15 bedrooms, a conservatory restaurant and a bar.
It has grown in popularity and acclaim throughout a difficult period for the hospitality sector and since the pandemic has managed to retain up to 90pc of its staff.
"Continuity helps and getting out and about chatting to people, that sets us apart from a lot of other establishments," Mr Williamson said.
“We really try to look after our team and provide an environment where they can be themselves. It is not stuffy, it's a relaxed premium environment and the guests love it.
"All of our comments are about how friendly the staff are and that comes down to the environment and culture."
The White Horse is run by Anglian Country Inns and sits right on the marshes that stretch over the Brancaster coast.
It has won a string of other awards and currently holds two AA Rosettes.
Mr Williamson added that the team has had to stay at the top of their game as people are very selective about where they spend their money.
"I think we've managed to stay busy and successful through remaining true to our values, and value doesn't always mean the price,” he said.
"What we have found in the tail end of last year is that people were very choosy with their money and we had to be on top of our game and deliver on our promise of making people happy.
"We listen to our guests and we’ve got a great platform where we can get feedback internally.
“Not everything has to be at top-end prices and there needs to be a range, we want to be all things to everyone.
"And I certainly think having familiar faces at the forefront of the business helps.”
