Neighbours oppose pool and darts club in Sprowston Road

The proposals would see 2A Sprowston Road, formerly Collins Care Mobility Specialists, into a bar and games space. 

Locals have written to Norwich City Council to express their opposition to the new venue, which they say would increase anti-social behaviour in the area.

The premises would include five to six pool tables along with wall-mounted dart boards, and would be operated as a members club - with a small additional charge for guests. 

Sarah Gann, who lives in Sprowston Road, said: "There is a real likelihood of an increase in anti-social behaviour and crime around our homes, such as littering, vandalism, and even aggressive behaviour and violence.

"People will undoubtedly be milling about outside on the pavement, smoking and vaping. I live on my own near the premises and can imagine there will be times when this could feel intimidating, even threatening."

The applicant, Colin Shreeve, has said that music will be played at a "low level" and customers would be encouraged not to loiter outside.

The venue's opening hours would be 10.30am until 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and 10.30am until midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Neighbours also raised concerns about the proximity of the building to a narrow road and its impact on a nearby care home. 

Nigel Shaw, of the adjacent Northcote Road, said: "I am very concerned that the granting of this licence will have a very adverse effect on the quality of life of residents.

"The overspill of customers onto Sprowston Road will not only cause a nuisance but will also present an obstruction to pedestrians."

Norwich City Council will consider whether to approve the licence at a meeting on June 17.
