Fire crews have finally managed to control a huge blaze that engulfed a picturesque home in a Norfolk village last night.

People were urged to close their windows and doors after 12 crews, including a control unit and water carrier, were called to the scene.

The fire broke out at a home in Tumbleyhill Road in West Acre Gardens, near King's Lynn, with the homeowner fleeing the blazing building.

Crews wore breathing apparatus and used main jets and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hot spots.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service warned the public of the ongoing incident.

At 2am, a spokesman for the service said: "Due to the volume of smoke, we would urge local residents to close all windows and doors.

"Please avoid the area if you can."

An investigation has begun.
