Norwich MP candidate ditches Instagram for door knocking

But so far, the Norwich North parliamentary candidate for the Conservative Party, Charlotte Salomon, has taken a rather old-school route in her campaign.

The Instagram influencer from Essex said she is "too busy" knocking on doors and speaking with city voters since her campaign launched in March this year.

Since then, the 39-year-old, who is standing in her first election, has rarely posted to her account, only sharing two images.

The latest was after Rishi Sunak called the General Election in May, saying, "Here we go" along with a statement setting out her promise to serve the people of Norwich if elected.

Previously her feed was regularly updated with images of herself, animals, food and travelling adventures.

However, Ms Salomon is confident her more traditional approach is paying off.

"I've been too busy out on the doorstep, talking to the people of Norwich North and sharing my plan. It's been a whirlwind experience but people know it is a two-horse race and they are very much interested in what I have to say."

Norwich North will be an interesting contest this election. Former Conservative MP Chloe Smith held the seat for 14 years until she announced she would step down at this General Election.

While Ms Salomon hopes to follow in the footsteps of her Tory predecessor's successful parliamentary career, the latest YouGov poll suggests Labour's candidate - Alice MacDonald - will win with a comfortable majority.

But Ms Salomon still thinks it is "all to play for" and hopes her campaign that puts better NHS services and more affordable housing at its heart will appeal to voters.

"People know there is a decision to be made, whether we want to have dithering, delays and not knowing what's coming from Keir Starmer, or sticking with us and knowing what's coming."

The Green Party's Ben Price, Reform UK's Nick Taylor and Liberal Democrat Chika Akinwale join Ms Salomon and Ms MacDonald in the race to become Norwich North's next MP.
