From seaside townhouses to sprawling country manors, Norfolk is home to an array of stunning Victorian properties – recently revealed to be the most searched for period property style on Rightmove.
Analysis of searches made using the website's keyword sort tool showed that ‘character’ and ‘period’ ranked in the top twenty most searched-for keywords in property criteria this year.
Victorian properties topped the list of most searched-for property styles, while Georgian properties were the second most searched-for, Edwardian in third, followed by Tudor in forth and Regency homes in fifth.
Ashby House in Hunstanton, itself a Victorian seaside resort, is one of many fine examples of Norfolk's array of Victorian-style houses.

The four-bedroom townhouse is on the market with Sowerbys at a £450,000 guide price. Located in the town’s historic quarter, the grand property has previously been used as a beloved second home and is within easy reach of the high street and the beach.
A spokesperson at Sowerbys said: “It is easy to see why these properties are so popular. Bursting with character, charm, high ceilings, spacious rooms and a great location all come together to make a beautiful home by the sea.”
Ashby House’s grand brick façade stands out at the end of a row of similar properties, its bay windows and ornate dormer characteristic of its origin. Inside, the property blends period character with modern style, featuring deep skirtings, elaborate fireplaces, tall ceilings and picture rails.
Through the welcoming porch with striking stained glass and a tiled floor, the first room encountered is the front reception room with a bay window and a cosy open fireplace. Next to this room is a separate snug, which could also be used as a dining room or home office.
To the rear of Ashby House is a spacious kitchen with modern units and space for a dining table. A door in this room opens to an inner hall with access into the courtyard garden.
Upstairs, there are three large double bedrooms on the first floor as well as a large 14x11 ft family bathroom, which Sowerbys said is “large enough to fit a central bath and separate shower with ease”. The impressive principal bedroom is bathed in natural light, with a large bay window and “excellent wardrobe space”.
Another staircase on the landing leads to the second floor, where there is a further bedroom served by a modern shower room.
This floor could be utilised as a bedroom for older children seeking privacy, an additional living area or a guest room.
Between the top floors is a large storage area providing ample storage space. Sowerbys notes that this has potential for conversation, subject to relevant planning.
Outside, the townhouse’s low-maintenance patio garden includes plenty of space for al fresco dining, along with a summer house that’s ideal for cosy summer evenings.
