Election rivals in a coastal town have become embroiled in a Facebook squabble with one candidate blocking the other after he received a barrage of comments from him.

Tory hopeful James Clark, who is standing to become the next MP for Great Yarmouth, has barred Reform UK's Rupert Lowe from accessing his social media page following the incident.

It comes just six days after Mr Clark was announced as a candidate by his party.

Former Southampton FC chairman Rupert Lowe has complained that he has been blocked and all of his comments have been deleted from Mr Clark's posts, calling it "disappointing news."

"Toxic Tories have failed Great Yarmouth and he won't even defend their shameful legacy," he said in a Facebook post.

It is understood that the decision to block Mr Lowe followed Mr Clark's Facebook page being spammed with comments.

A spokesman for James Clark declined to comment.

Mr Lowe has also been frequently commenting on Labour candidate Keir Cozens' Facebook posts.

A recent poll by Survation has predicted Labour will win with a strong majority in Great Yarmouth, with Reform UK expected to beat the Conservatives by a narrow margin.
