A converted 19th-century railway station and 1960s carriage has been catapulted into national attention after being named one of the UK's best stays.

The Old Station in Heacham has been recognised among the UK's top seven coolest stays for train lovers.

Jumping to fame on the hit BBC show Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, the duo stayed there during a trip to the county.

The stop is made up of the Mark I first-class railway carriage, sleeping four, and the 19th-century waiting rooms, sleeping two.

The carriage itself has been brought up to modern standards but maintains its old-world charm complete with maroon British Rail livery and upholstered dining chairs with their original fabrics.

The converted Victorian waiting rooms still have many of their original features and sit on the grounds of the former Great Eastern Railway.

A restaurant next door was also commended, the article said: "The conversions are self-catered but you should treat yourself to dinner at the West Norfolk hotel next door at least once."
