A man has denied stealing a Morris Minor 1000 van by pushing it away down the road with another man while drunk.

Richard Law, 48, is accused of moving the classic vehicle from a Norwich car park to another location between January 23 and 27 this year.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told another man had already admitted his part in the alleged theft as part of taking into consideration offences in a separate court case.

Nicola Lamb, prosecuting, said CCTV footage had captured the incident that saw the van being pushed away from where it had been left.

Law, of Northumberland Street, pleaded not guilty to theft of a motor vehicle.

Michael Cole, representing Law, said he had long-running issues with alcohol dependency that often meant he could not remember.

He said the defendant alleged he had been assaulted and had diesel thrown over him in connection with the theft claims.

Law was given unconditional bail until his trial scheduled for March 5 next year.

The Morris Minor was produced between 1948 and 1971 but according to the DVLA there are now just 2,054 on the road.
