A new route to a quarry from a roundabout on Norwich's Northern Distributor Road will be created after councillors backed the proposal.

The new access to Spixworth Quarry, from the A140 roundabout on the NDR, was approved by members of Norfolk County Council's planning committee.

Tarmac Trading Ltd was granted temporary permission by County Hall's planning committee for the new route to its sand and gravel quarry at Church Lane.

Up until now, HGVs have used Newton St Faith and Frettenham to get to the A140 - to the irritation of people living in the area.

Tarmac applied to prolong the use of the quarry until December 2026, so it can be restored, but as part of that, tonnes of material will need to be brought by lorry to fill in the quarry.

So permission was also sought for new access off the NDR, from what is known as the Petans roundabout.

Officers recommended that members of the county council’s planning committee give the proposals the go-ahead - and they did, unanimously, at a meeting on Friday.
