The nation will go to the polls for the general election in just six weeks - and it could transform Norfolk and Waveney's political landscape.

Prime minister Rishi Sunak ended months of speculation when he announced July 4 as the date for the general election.

The battle will now intensify over the next few weeks - and in some constituencies parties are still scrambling to select candidates.

These are the candidates announced in Norfolk and Waveney's 11 constituencies so far.

Norwich North

Chloe Smith, who has represented Norwich North since 2009, is not seeking re-election.

Charlotte Salomon is hoping to keep the constituency in Conservative hands.

Labour candidate Alice Macdonald, who grew up in Downham Market, was selected in July 2022.

Other candidates include Green Ben Price, a Norwich city councillor and leader of his group at Norfolk County Council and Reform UK's Nick Taylor.

The Liberal Democrat candidate is Chika Akinwale, a Cambridgeshire district councillor.

Norwich South

Labour's Clive Lewis is looking to retain the seat he won from the Liberal Democrats in 2015.

But former Jane Austen College headteacher David Thomas is aiming to win the seat for the Conservatives.

Jamie Osborn, a councillor at Norfolk County Council and Norwich City Council, is the Green candidate.

Sean Bennett is standing for the Lib Dems and Graham Burton for Reform UK.

Broadland and Fakenham

A slight name change for the Broadland constituency, to reflect how Fakenham is part of the constituency.

Jerome Mayhew, who has held the seat for the Conservatives since 2019 is seeking another victory.

His opponents include Labour's Iain Simpson, Green Jan Davis Liberal Democrat Leyla Hannbeck and Reform UK's Eric Masters.

North Norfolk

Conservative Duncan Baker has been reselected to fight for the seat he took from the Liberal Democrats in 2019.

The Lib Dems are determined to win it back, through Norfolk county councillor Steffan Aquarone, who was selected two years ago.

Labour's candidate is Great Yarmouth borough councillor Cathy Cordiner-Achenbach, while Green hopes are resting with Liz Dixon.

Jason Patchett is the Reform UK candidate.

South Norfolk

Long-serving Conservative Richard Bacon is not standing, with the Tories entrusting Poppy Simister-Thomas with the task of keeping the constituency blue.

Chris Brown, leader of the Liberal Democrat group at South Norfolk, is his party's pick to challenge for the seat.

The Green candidate is former MEP and current county councillor Prof Catherine Rowett.

Jason Maguire is standing for the Social Democratic Party.

Mid Norfolk

Conservative George Freeman has held the seat since 2010 and wants to continue.

But Michael Rosen, a South Norfolk district councillor and former head of children's services at Norfolk County Council, is eyeing it for Labour.

Kabeer Kher is standing for Reform UK and Simon Blackwell for the Workers Party.

South West Norfolk

Former prime minister Liz Truss is fighting to retain the seat she has held for the Conservatives since 2010.

Terry Jermy, a county and district councillor, hopes to unseat her and win the constituency for Labour.

Independent James Bagge - who was part of the Turnip Taliban which opposed Ms Truss' selection back in 2010 - is also standing.

Josie Ratcliffe is standing for the Liberal Democrats, Toby McKenzie for Reform UK and West Norfolk councillor Pallavi Devulapalli for the Greens.

North West Norfolk

Conservative incumbent James Wild is standing again, keen to hold the seat he won in 2019.

His Labour opponent is Tim Leaver, while solicitor Rob Colwell, a county and district councillor, is fighting for the Lib Dems.

Great Yarmouth

With Sir Brandon Lewis standing down after 14 years, the Conservatives have yet to select their candidate.

Great Yarmouth Conservatives chairman Robert Price admitted he had been anticipating an October election, but said names were in with Conservative head office to get a candidate announced quickly.

Labour's candidate is Keir Cozens, while Reform UK is fielding Rupert Lowe, former chairman of Southampton Football Club.

Waveney Valley

The election here is likely to be under a particularly intense national spotlight.

As a newly created, cross-border constituency -  comprising Norfolk communities like Diss and Suffolk towns including Bungay - there is little polling data to suggest which way it will vote.

It is one of the Green's national target seats, with Adrian Ramsay, former Norwich city councillor and co-leader of his party nationally, having been selected two years ago.

Richard Rout, a senior Suffolk county councillor is standing for the Conservatives.

Labour's candidate is Dr Gurpreet Padda, Scott Huggins is standing for Reform UK and Maya Severyn for the Social Democratic Party.

Lowestoft

A name change for the former Waveney constituency, but Conservative Peter Aldous will be hoping he can keep the seat he has held since 2010.

Jessica Asato, who lost to Chloe Smith in Norwich North in 2015, is looking to take the seat for Labour, while the Lib Dem runner is Adam Robertson.
