Plans which could allow for the first Pret A Manger to open in Suffolk have been approved.

West Suffolk Council received plans to expand Barton Mills Service Station, at the Fiveways roundabout on the A11 near Mildenhall, in January.

Motor Fuel Group applied to extend the current forecourt, with drawings showing an area earmarked for a Pret A Manger site.

A design and access statement said the approved plans will increase the amount of storage space currently on site.

"The extension will add to this by providing more efficient space for a store to provide for the existing food to go area," the statement said.

A delegated report added: "The extension is considered by officers to be modest and will enhance the existing service station by providing additional storage facility in relation to a new internal servery space."

It would become the first Pret A Manger to open in Suffolk.

It follows the unveiling of a drive-thru Five Guys at the Fiveways roundabout last year.

Pret A Manger has been approached for comment.
