The Norfolk & Norwich (N&N) Festival returns this month, featuring a programme packed to the brim with music, dance, theatre, literature and visual arts.

These are some of the best events happening across the city and beyond from May 10 to 26 2024.

1. MOSH

Where: Epic Studios, 112-114 Magdalen Street, Norwich, NR3 1JD

When: May 23-25, 7.30pm 

Price: £7.50-£20

Rachel Ní Bhraonáin brings her new show MOSH to Epic Studios for its UK premiere.

Performed by a troupe of five dancers, a guitarist and a drummer, MOSH tells an unconventional story about the communal experience with humour and heart.

2. 268 Years of Reverb

Where: Octagon Chapel, Norwich, NR3 1BN

When: May 18, 2pm/4pm/6pm/8pm

Price: £7.50-£50 

Radiohead member Jonny Greenwood’s latest composition has its world premiere at this year’s festival.

Performed by James McVinnie and Eliza McCarthy on the Octagon Chapel’s organ, 268 years of reverb captures the atmosphere of its historic surroundings.

3. Mo and the Red Ribbon

Where: Westlegate, Norwich, NR1 3LX (start point) to The Forum, Norwich, NR2 1BH

When: May 10, 9pm (parade lasts approximately 1hr20mins) 

Price: Free

The opening event of this year’s festival, Mo and the Red Ribbon combines puppetry and emotional storytelling in a parade through Norwich. 

It will explore the experience of migration from a child’s perspective.

4. an Accident / a Life

Where: Norwich Theatre Royal, Theatre Street, Norwich, NR2 1RL

When: May 24-25, 7.30pm 

Price: £10-£35

Marc Brew’s new collaboration with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, an Accident / a Life, sees him recreate a pivotal moment in his life to tell poignant truths about the way things can change in a second.

5. Festival Gardens

Where: Chapelfield Gardens, Norwich, NR2 1SF

When: May 15-26

Price: Various

Highlights from this year’s Festival Gardens offering include chef Alex Firman’s culinary Feast From The East and the residency of Colombian circus troupe Circolombia in the Adnams Spiegeltent.

6. Aurora Orchestra

Where: Norwich Cathedral, Norwich, NR1 4DH

When: May 11, 6pm/8pm

Price: £7.50-£27

A highlight of the festival’s classical music line-up, Aurora Orchestra presents a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 up close and personal in the atmospheric confines of Norwich Cathedral.

7. Uprooted

Where: Adnams Spiegeltent, Chapelfield Gardens, Norwich, NR2 1SF

When: May 26, 10.30am

Price: £7.50-£10

The N&N Festival’s City of Literature strand includes Uprooted, an engaging discussion on nature and literature with Marchelle Farrell and Jessica J Lee.

Join them in a hopeful and healing environment to tackle difficult questions of how to plant new roots when we feel out of place.

8. BBC New Generation Artists

Where: Octagon Chapel, Norwich, NR3 1BN/Sheringham Little Theatre, NR26 8RE/The Corn Hall, Diss, IP22 4LB

When: May 14-17

Price: Various 

Pianist and conductor Michael Pandya will perform two concerts, collaborating with fellow pianist Keval Shah and baritone Michael Hamilton.

Additionally, young violinist Geneva Lewis makes a welcome festival return for three special concerts across Norfolk.

9. Antony Gormley and Magdelene Odundo

Where: Houghton Hall, PE31 6TY

When: Antony Gormley (until October 31) Magdelene Odundo (May 12-September 29)

At Houghton Hall, Antony Gormley presents his spectacular large-scale installation Time Horizon, while Dame Magdelene Odundo presents an exhibition of her revered ceramic sculptures.
