A teenager accused of attempted murder has gone on the run again only days after he was arrested following a six-week police manhunt.

The 17-year-old appeared in court in Norwich last Thursday charged in connection with an attack on a man in front of his fiancée and young daughters near the centre of Thetford on Mother’s Day.

He and co-accused Elvis Price, 18, had been arrested two days earlier in Kent, bringing to an end a six-week police operation to track them down.

After the hearing at Norwich Magistrates' Court, the 17-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age - was remanded into the care of a local authority under bail conditions until his next court appearance later this month.

He was then taken to a care facility where he was to remain under strict supervision.

However, he absconded from the site on Saturday morning before an electronic tag could be fitted.

Police are currently searching for him again.

However, they have refused to provide the public with a description of the accused to help find him, saying it could “lead to his identification” and breach restrictions on the reporting of youths accused of criminal offences.

The family of Danny Norman, the victim of the Mother's Day attack have been informed of the news by police.

They are understood to be furious about the situation, with a source close to them calling it a “disgrace” and an “absolute shambles”.

Mr Norman, who is in his 30s, was with his fiancée and their two daughters when he was stabbed at around 11.45am on Sunday, March 10.

He was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in life-threatening condition although police now say his condition is stable.
