Major expansion of Lotus site in Hethel set for approval

Proposals to construct three new buildings at the Lotus Cars site in Hethel, near Wymondham, have been recommended for approval by South Norfolk Council. 

The Norfolk-based firm hopes to construct production, logistics and office buildings - alongside new road infrastructure. 

This would see a new roundabout built in Wymondham Road and a new route to improve general access to Potash Lane.

The expansion would also create around 425 jobs, despite recent cuts and financial losses within the company.

Jim Webber, South Norfolk councillor for Hethel, called for the application to be carefully considered as it would "fundamentally change the lives" of people living in the area.

"I have a number of concerns with the application and it is lacking in much important detail," he added.

However, Lotus says the plans are necessary to secure the future of the site, which was established in 1966.

The company said: "The commitment from Lotus to continue to grow their business at Hethel should be welcomed and supported.

"This development will provide us with the blueprint to achieve future success and growth."
