A weekend in Weybourne staying at Crabpot Cottages lodge

My partner and I drove up from Norwich last Friday night to stay there for the weekend at a place called Lakeside Lodge.

It is managed by the family-run Norfolk holiday rental firm Crabpot Cottages, which has around 50 properties on its books and offices in both Sheringham and Hunstanton.

The bolthole lodge sleeps four people, with one double and a twin room, and we met two friends there who drove from Lincolnshire.

It was the perfect base for exploring the area and after arriving on Friday we took a five-minute walk over to The Ship Inn pub.

I tucked into a superb rolled pork belly dish and a fruit crumble with lashings of custard - it was so good I have booked to come back for a Sunday roast at a later date.

On Saturday night, we made the most of the gorgeous decking area overlooking the lake at the lodge and had a barbecue.

While April temperatures meant we ate indoors, if you visited in the summer you could spend all day out there with a glass of wine and a book.

It is around a 15-minute leisurely walk to the pebble beach and we headed there on Saturday morning.

I then grabbed a hot drink at Ali's of Weybourne, a charming café and village shop, before catching the Coasthopper bus to Sheringham and meeting the others who walked the coastal path route.

When we got there, we enjoyed browsing the independent shops and lunch from Stubby's Pizza.

The Coasthopper was once again punctual on the return trip and it was £2 each way.

Weybourne is also on the North Norfolk Railway line between Sheringham and Holt, with unlimited day rover tickets available and regular events. 

After spending a weekend in Weybourne, it offered the best of both worlds with a rural feel combined with easy access to the major tourist areas.
