An 11-day road closure is expected to cause delays through Norfolk's "bottleneck village".
Wroxham Road and Belaugh Road in Coltishall will close for three phases of work until May 3 to install a new fibre network for broadband provider BDUK.
Only one part of the road will be closed at any one time and there will be a signed diversion in place.
The first phase of the work started today, 120m northwest of White Lion Road to Belaugh Green Lane.
The second phase will run from Belaugh Green Lane to Top Road followed by the final phase which will take place between Top Road to 660m northwest of Station Road.
Norwich Road and High Street in Coltishall will close to traffic between May 13 and May 17 for a different project.
A Norfolk County Council spokesman said that the plywood decks on the village's footbridge have reached the end of their lifespan and must be replaced with an alternative.
During the closure, drivers are being asked to follow the official diversion out to the Aylsham bypass and back through North Walsham to rejoin the B1150.
