A former village pub is set to become a new Indian restaurant. 

The Flying Fish pub in Carbrooke, near Watton, will be transformed under plans approved by Breckland Council. 

The pub has been vacant since 2022 and hundreds of local people commented on the application, with many expressing their support for the redevelopment. 

The building in Norwich Road will now be turned into a "much-needed" restaurant including a bar area and two dining rooms.

The pub, formerly known as the White Horse, was taken over by Jo Clarke and Jay Lewis in 2018, but has now been closed and boarded-up for some time.

Sally Sadler, who lives in nearby Watton, said: "This location desperately needs to be a working restaurant.

"It will be lovely to see the Flying Fish open for business - the place has looked tired and abandoned for such a long time and we have been looking at its renovation with excitement."

Jessica Culmer, who lives in the village, said the site had become an "eyesore" and a "wasted opportunity".

"We would love to see it brought back to life," she added.

The new restaurant will be open seven days a week and is expected to create six new jobs.
