Eight drivers were arrested and six vehicles were seized during a police crackdown in Great Yarmouth.

Police escorted 50 vehicles from the road to a designated check site during the day of action on Thursday.

After checking everyone they pulled over, officers arrested three drivers for cannabis production, three for immigration offences and one for drug driving and possession. 

They also arrested a man who was wanted for failing to appear at court.

A total of six vehicles were seized, one for having no road tax and five more under Section 165 which covers vehicles without insurance and drivers without a licence. 

Twenty-five Traffic Offence Reports were issued throughout the day including one for a van over its weight limit.

One van failed to stop for police and the driver fled the scene.

Officers seized the vehicle and enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver.

PC Joshua Preston of the Roads and Armed Policing team said: “Action days such as these are incredibly important for maintaining the safety of Norfolk’s roads and the county as a whole.

“Drivers who hold false documents or have no insurance have been found to be linked to wider criminality.

"Officers are proactively preventing these individuals from going on to commit further crime."
