A former teacher has shaved her head to raise money for a charity that supports the homeless.
Crowds gathered to watch Alison Shirreff, 75, of Bungay have her head shaved in the Bungay Buttercross yesterday.
The motive behind having it done was to raise money for and awareness of the homeless charity Shelter.
Mrs Shirreff retired as a teacher 15 years ago but still volunteers with children to help them.
"I am so upset with the current situation with so many children having to endure such perilous struggles early in life," she said.
"So I decided to do something which is not very beneficial to me but at least I can raise awareness of the issue and also raise some money to help."
At the event, a placard was on display showing some of the following figures from Shelter:
-
East Suffolk: 301people totally homeless
-
288 in temporary accommodations
-
132 of these are children
-
Nationally there is a 27pc increase in homelessness
-
3,898 sleeping rough
The retired teacher expressed immense gratitude for those who donated as the sum raised stands at £1,500 and counting.
