A man has been jailed after breaking into a home to steal a car from someone's driveway.

Sullivan Lee, 22 and of no fixed address, smashed the porch window of a house in Gisleham in the early hours of June 3 last year to steal the keys of a VW Golf that was parked outside. 

Lee drove the car in a manner that caused considerable enough damage to the engine and mechanics that it had to be written off.

Police officers tracked it to Great Barford in Bedfordshire where they took DNA swabs from inside, linking Lee to the crime. 

Further enquiries discovered he had driven the car on the A146 in Loddon at 95 mph.

He was subsequently charged in December and appeared at Ipswich Crown Court last Wednesday after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.

Lee was sentenced to 20 months in prison for the home burglary, with a concurrent six-month jail term for the car theft.

Detective Constable Edward Vincent said: "The theft of the vehicle caused the victim great distress and upheaval as she was using this car as part of her work and was reliant on it for getting from client to client.

"Now justice has been served and Lee will now have plenty of time to reflect on his actions."
