Tiny baby weighing just 1.1kg born at James Paget, Gorleston

For Christina Webb-Wright and Kyle Nash, this saying could not ring truer after their first child was born weighing little more than a bag of sugar.

The Bradwell couple welcomed baby Arthur Frederick on Leap Day, three days after Miss Webb-Wright was unexpectedly admitted to hospital with leaking waters.

The new mum was rushed to hospital on February 26 - exactly two months before baby Arthur was due to be born.

Then, on Thursday, February 29, staff at the James Paget University Hospital noticed the baby, who had previously received foetal medication, was in distress and needed to be delivered by emergency C-section.

He was born at 5.31pm on Leap Day, weighing just 2lb 10oz - just under 1.2kg.

Miss Webb-Wright, 31, was discharged from hospital on Mother's Day, but baby Arthur continues to be in the care of the neonatal unit, but is doing well.

New dad Mr Nash, 29, said: "It has been really tough leaving him at the hospital, but we know he is receiving really good support.

"It was really tough emotionally, but we've got a good routine and can't wait to bring him home."

The tiny tot was named after his late grandfather Arthur and great uncle Frederick - who were twins.

And his connection with his late ancestors will have added significance in three out of four years - when he celebrates his birthday.

Arthur and Frederick, who were twins, were born on February 28, meaning the family have chosen to celebrate the leapling's birthday on this date in regular years.

Mr Nash added: "We can not praise the team at the James Paget enough - they have been faultless.

"Without their rapid response to seeing our baby in distress in the womb, he wouldn't have made it."
