A violent offender from Norfolk has failed in a bid to overturn his conviction for seriously assaulting a police officer in London.
Michel Semedo, 28, was found guilty of assault with intent and assaulting a police officer in his absence after failing to attend a trial at Thames Magistrates' Court.
It follows an incident in the Stoke Newington area of north London in September 2022 when he attacked one officer while attempting to resist arrest.
A second Met police officer was also assaulted.
Appearing at Norwich Magistrates’ Court, Semedo, of Wellington Road in Great Yarmouth, sought to have his conviction set aside.
His defence solicitor Andre Crump argued he had been unaware of the date of his trial.
Deputy District Judge Lisa Towell ruled it was “not in the interests of justice” saying it had been a “very serious assault” that had left the officer with nasty injuries.
Semedo has since been given a 12 month suspended sentence at Norwich Crown Court last year for grievous bodily harm.
He was granted conditional bail until his sentencing on May 10.
