Redwings’ 2023 Christmas animation about Anna Sewell, author of Black Beauty, has been named a finalist in the Charity Film Awards 2024.
Voiced by Dame Joanna Lumley, the animation traces Anna's journey to writing the book and the impact of it on animal welfare.
A Norfolk-based company, Meantime Media, in alliance with the University of East Anglia (UEA) and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, produced the film.
It will now come under judges' scrutiny, with the People’s Choice Award public vote commencing on February 14.
Nicola Knight, head of communications and campaigns at Redwings, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be a finalist in these coveted awards, which we hope will bring even more attention to this project, and are so grateful to everyone who took the time to vote for us."
The animation premiered on Redwings’ social media on November 25 last year after a private screening at The Priory in Great Yarmouth, Ms Sewell’s birthplace.
Accompanying the animation, a special fundraising edition of Black Beauty was unveiled, whose proceeds assist the charity which acts as custodian for Anna Sewell House.
