Work to build Norfolk's newest primary school has begun as a village continues to play catch-up following significant housing growth.
Construction work on the new Blofield Primary School is now under way, following a ground-breaking ceremony.
The new school, which will replace the existing site, is set to have a capacity of 420, almost double the school's current size.
The £12m project will be built across two storeys, with the youngest pupils to be taught on the ground floor, and 14 classrooms in total.
Teresa Doggett, Blofield Primary School headteacher, said: "The new school will ensure we can support the growth of required primary school spaces needed across the local area while helping children to achieve the very high standards they are capable of."
Andrew Proctor, Norfolk County Council's member for Blofield, said the project would help alleviate the strain on local infrastructure that came following a groundswell of new homes in recent years.
He said: "Having this new school doubling the pupil capacity is in response to growth and that's exactly the approach people in Blofield expect to see.
"I look forward to its opening."
