A father and son have been warned they face jail as they wait to be sentenced after a woman died when they crashed into her car in a stolen Land Rover while trying to escape from police.

Thomas Urbaniak, 26, was being driven in a £90,000 Land Rover Defender by his father, Marcin Jablonski, 44, when it smashed into a Nissan Juke on the A143, near Earsham.

Jablonski and his son were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and questioned by police after being treated for injuries they had received following the crash at about 4.30pm on August 13 last year.

Urbaniak, from Newmarket, had denied aggravated vehicle taking but on Wednesday entered guilty pleas to aggravated vehicle taking and burglary in that a car and keys, as well as other items, were stolen in Newmarket on August 11 last year.

Both defendants appeared at Norwich Crown Court and were warned by Judge Katharine Moore custody was inevitable ahead of their sentencing on March 25.

Jablonski has also admitted causing death while driving with no insurance and while driving while disqualified.

In addition he has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking of the Land Rover in Newmarket on Friday, August 11, and criminal damage, of £6,000 worth of crops, which were destroyed when he drove into a field in a bid to escape from police.

"We had so many plans for our future together that now, we will not be able to fulfil, and this is something I’m still struggling to come to terms with.

"Aisa will be missed by so many people."

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) by Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies, as is standard procedure.
