A long-running car boot sale has closed its gates for the final time after nearly three decades.

Julie's Car Boot Sale has been a Sunday tradition for traders and visitors in Burgh Castle for the last 29 years.

A heartfelt farewell was posted on social media to explain why the "difficult decision" had been made.

It read: "With a mix of nostalgia and sincere gratitude to you all we announce that Julie's Car Boot Sale has closed its gates for the last time.

"This decision has not been made lightly and has been a difficult one to make."

Julie Church-Greiner, a fourth-generation farmer, explained that due to climate change, the car boot sale land in Market Road will be transformed into a species-rich grassland to promote environmental diversity.

According to Mrs Church-Greiner, this decision aligns with "the urgent need to create sustainable solutions that benefit our community and planet".

She added: "We want to thank each and every one of you for supporting us through nearly three decades, my heartfelt appreciation goes out to you all."

The announcement was met with thanks and condolences online.

Carol Perfect said: "Thank you for many years of car boots, my mum and late dad loved visiting you on a Sunday. You will be missed."

Kazzie Marie Skoyles added: "Wow, this is a shock. I'm gutted as I loved trading and wandering around on a Sunday."

Stallholders previously shared their overwhelmingly positive thoughts on the car boot, saying Julie's was "the best" in the area by far.
