A Norfolk firm which makes electric double decker buses revealed it almost doubled its revenue in 2023, wracking up more than £2m worth of sales in the final six months of the year.

Equipmake, a Snetterton-based manufacturer of electric powertrain components which can be used in buses, cars, and even aircraft, generated revenue of £2.07m between May and November - a year-on-year increase of 97pc.

It’s after the firm secured a second order from the sightseeing company Big Bus Tours - which operates in a number of cities - for a further 10 buses, worth a total of £1.75m.

Ian Foley, CEO of the Norfolk company, said:  “Our half-year results demonstrate strong progress on our journey to building revenue and operational profitability.

“We have not only secured substantial new orders from new customers but also extended our capacity and in-house capabilities through targeted investment.

“As we have built our business over this interim period, we have been judicious in our approach to new opportunities, ensuring that we prioritise those directly in our target sectors and those that are most complementary in the nearer term with our existing product offering.”
