A woman who became unwell with flu while flying home from the Canary Islands died after accidentally overdosing on over-the-counter medicine, a court has heard.
Nicola Price, 57, of Watton Road in Hingham, near Wymondham, was travelling back from Tenerife when she began experiencing flu-like symptoms.
On arriving home, she purchased some over-the-counter medication containing paracetamol, but her symptoms worsened.
Her mother dialled 999 and she was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital where her condition deteriorated.
She died on January 5.
Her brother, William Price, gave a statement to Norfolk Coroner’s Court ahead of the inquest opening on January 12.
He said: “Nicola had no idea at that point she had taken too much paracetamol.
“She wouldn’t have looked at the warnings on the paracetamol and flu remedy packets.”
The main medical cause of death was given as multiple organ failure due to, or because of, an acute liver injury related to an accident paracetamol overdose.
A full inquest to determine to official cause of death will take place later in the year.
