Plans for five new homes have been withdrawn after villagers kicked up a stink over sewage.

Chris Spragg applied to build five new properties on land off Chequers Road in Pott Row, near King's Lynn.

But West Norfolk council's planning portal says they have now been withdrawn. No reason has yet been given.

Norfolk County Council highways officers were unhappy with access to the site and said fresh proposals should be drawn up moving it more centrally to the site to improve visibility.

But locals were even less happy with the idea of more properties being connected to the village's overflowing sewage system.

Chris Taylor wrote: "We have tankers pumping out the sewers on Chapel Road at the junction of Chequers Road 24/7 since before Christmas and there is no sign of this stopping.

"Tankers are also pumping near to Vong Lane, Station Road Roydon and Gayton Road at Grimston. How much more evidence do you need to show the sewers are beyond full?

"How can anyone can think it's okay for homes to go without toilets for days on end, and then allow more properties to be built on the same system?"

In an earlier objection, Mr Taylor asked: "I suggest those whose job it is to permit these applications think about being stuck in your house, with your loos up to the brim wanting to toilet for two days. What would you do? It's not pleasant I can assure you."

Hazel Panks posted: "The sewage system will struggle to cope, over the last few years during heavy rainfall it has been subject to flooding and coming up through the access covers all down Chequers Road.

"Residents were unable to use their facilities during these times and tanker lorries were used for several days to help clear the drains."

A woman named as Ms E Bailey added: "Pott Row has become far too overdeveloped with new houses currently unsold. The sewage system cannot cope."
