The couple behind one of Norfolk’s leading retro campervan businesses is handing the keys over to new owners, after it said “insurmountable challenges” had cut their adventure short.

Graham and Vicky Bray, who have been running Retro Campers Norfolk for the past five years, sold the business last month following an unsuccessful mission to secure storage for their seven vintage vans near their base in Hunstanton.

Mr Bray described the business, which rents out retro VW campervans for holidays and special events, as “a lifelong dream”, and said he was sad to see it go.

He said: “It feels too short for us because we’re still in love with the vans and sharing that passion.

“But finding a suitable space to park the vans, which was close enough to a specialist mechanic, was impossible.

“That was the only piece of the puzzle we couldn’t fit into place.”

Jamie and Philippa Symington will become the third owners of the business since it was founded 12 years ago, with Mr Bray describing them as “the perfect fit” to continue their legacy.

The couple are based in Terrington St Clement, just outside King’s Lynn, and will store the campervans in their renovated on-site barn.

Mrs Symington said she hoped the location would open the business up to a new customer base, with easy access to the north Norfolk coast, the Brecks, and Thetford Forest.

She said: "We are very lucky to have the space to carefully store these treasured VW campers, and to have the chance to take the business to pastures new – literally.

“Vicky and Graham have developed a very special business with many loyal customers from all over the country, people who appreciate these wonderful classic campers, and enjoy taking the slow road for a relaxing holiday.”
