A Norfolk leisure centre will shut for the majority of 2024 as it undergoes a £4m revamp. 

Diss Leisure Centre, run by South Norfolk Council, will close for modernisation and refurbishment work this year. 

The main changes will be a shallower swimming pool to "increase safety, efficiency and capacity for classes", an improved spectator seating area and bigger and revamped changing rooms.

There will also be new solar panels, an air source heat pump and insulation.

To make these improvements, the leisure centre will temporarily close from February 12 until December 2024.

A spokesperson said: "This will secure the future of the leisure centre for years to come, as well as helping us become more energy and cost-efficient.

The statement added: "Current plans for the refurbished centre do not include a gym or sauna and steam provision.

"However, this is being reviewed with options being explored for the recently purchased John Grose site along with other development opportunities within the town."

Work has already started on the outside of the leisure centre, with limited capacity in the car park at present.
