Eight people have been rescued after a fire ripped through a home just hours after Boxing Day.

Fire crews were called to the blaze in Gashouse Drove, Brandon, at around 4.30am today.

There was smoke coming from the property on arrival and fire crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

The fire broke out at a holiday let opposite flats at Leamon Court.

A family, who is believed to have been staying at the property over Christmas, was taken in by a local resident before being checked over by the emergency services.

They are believed to have since returned home.

Speaking about the fire, Gary Brocklehurst, vice chair of Brandon Town Council, said: "We really appreciate how vital our retained fire crews are forsaking any event at anytime to serve and protect Brandon residents."
