The traditional ploughing skills of classic and vintage tractor drivers will be put to the test at an event raising money for a Norfolk cancer charity.

The Norfolk Ploughing Society’s annual New Year Charity Fun Plough Day will be held on Sunday January 7 at Quebec Farm in Cawston, near Reepham.

Proceeds will be donated to Wymondham-based cancer support charity Star Throwers.

Around 70 ploughmen and women will take part, aiming to create the most neatly-ploughed plot – without the help of the hi-tech satellite guidance used in modern tractors.

"It is a skill which goes back to the beginnings of farming," said Mike Curtis, one of the event organisers. "There’s an art to it and it takes a lot of practice to get it right."

Ploughing starts at 10am and all plots are expected to be finished by early afternoon.

Entry is free for spectators, and there will be refreshments and donation buckets for those wishing to donate to the charity.

The event is being held by permission of MA and HV Medler, at Quebec Farm, Buxton Road, Cawston NR10 4HW. For more details see @Norfolk Ploughing on Facebook.
