The body of Harry Gregg, of Ben Culey Drive, was found at his home on December 15.
Housing officer Paula Oliver, who had known Mr Gregg for around five months, was able to identify him to an officer from Norfolk police.
Senior coroner Jaqueline Lake opened an inquest into his death at Norfolk Coroner’s Court on December 21.
The court, based at County Hall in Norwich, heard that Mr Gregg had been born on December 14, 1998, in Reading, Berkshire.
He was currently unemployed.
The medical cause of death was given as “ligature of the neck”.
An inquest to determine the official cause of death will take place on March 12 next year.
