A family-distillery in Norfolk has released the oldest whiskey in England, which it hopes will become an instant collectors' item.
The English Distillery, founded in Roudham, near Thetford, in 2006 by the Nelstrop family, is launching its 16 year old Port Cask this month.
With a 600-year history of growing and processing grain, the family is marking its 16th year in the whiskey business with the new release, which was distilled in early August 2007.
Two hundred and thirty bottles will be available to purchase, costing £295 each.
The batch is one year older than the whisky which previously held the title, a single malt released by the cellar in 2022.
Company chairman Andrew Nelstrop said the release was one of its most exciting to date.
He said: “I am always excited each time we release a cask from the cellar, which was first started by my father.
“This single malt whisky was one of the first port casks we ever filled.
“Sixteen years later, the whisky is delightful, with a hint of smoke and a wonderful taste of juicy dark fruits, ginger biscuits and a lovely oily texture creating a good long finish.”
